I see no reason why it can't be freezed in small batches. So one can make a large quantity and have supplies for a while.

My grandmother kept a roll of very thin gauge stainless steel wire in the kitchen to cut fudge and divinity.

I've always heard of doing it with wire, too! Just make sure it's clean. Razz
