It seems like I am on my way to New York in a few weeks - a dream come true! Now I need to book plane tickets and a place to stay - can someone give me a recommendation? Cheap, clean and close to "everything"... I can of course find a lot on the internet, but it is so hard to know what is good. |

Cheap is not usually a good sign in NYC I am sorry to say. The Hotel Edison is one I wouldn't recomend to an enemy, so steer clear. The Algonquin is wonderful, and you can often find good deals tp stay there. It is also cool to stay at the place so many wonderful authors have called home.
While you are here, check out Tony Bourdain's restaurant Les Halles. YUM!
Enjoy NYC! _________________ "It's watery....and yet there's a smack of ham."

Clivia - I spent a few days in NYC in June of last year, and stayed at the Washington Square Hotel. It wasn't exactly cheap, but among the cheapest that didn't look seedy. My room was nothing fancy but it was clean and comfortable, the location was perfect (in the village, just a block from Blue Hill!), and the staff was helpful and friendly -- I would definitely stay there again. |

Our son goes to NYU, so we are there about 2x a year. We stay in the Larchmont on E. 11th street (I think it's east). Anyway, it is sparkling clean and rooms run between $100 & $120 a night - depending on weekend or week night and which room you have. The toilets and baths are down the hall and there's a sink in each room. Also, continental breakfast is included. It is very sweet and very quiet - quiet being a nearly unknown amenity in NYC hotels! Highly receommended! _________________ L'appetit vient en mangeant. -Rabelais |
