Have a great trip! There is a lot going on in Seattle for the holidays, so it should be great fun.
As for your White Christmas, Seattle doens't get much snow, but I am sure you know to head to the mountains, they have had feet and feet of it already, just 45 minutes outside the city. What can be promised is a stage production of White Christmas, on all through December. I took my mom during Thanksgiving weekend, and it was a wonderful show.
Also, if it is something you would be interested in, the Bodies exhibition is in Seattle through Dec. It is a bit controversial, but we are going to go, as it seems rather unique, and when not cooking, i am a scientist.
Enjoy your holiday, and let me know if you need any other info!

Judy- I love the whole Northwest so I'm sure you're going to have a wonderful time!
BlueDog is right. If you want to be assured of snow and time permits, there's Mt. Baker and just north of the border Whistler/Blackcomb. Whistler doesn't always get reliable snow before late Jan/Feb but it's a lovely place anyway. You might enjoy seeing it so when the Winter Olympics are broadcast in 2010 you will see some familiar sights. And after 2010 I fear it won't be the same place. I feel lucky to remember when it was a quaint European style village at the base of two terrific mountains.
Oh I hope some ferry rides to the islands are on your schedule too. I feel like a kid again when I'm on a ferry.
Merry Northwest Christmas to you a tad early! _________________ God writes a lot of comedy... the trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny. -- Garrison Keillor

If you happen to wander down Oregon way, a trip down the Pacific Coast Highway is lovely this time of year. If its mild, and not icy on the road, take yourselves through the Tillamook Forest to a place called Oswald West State park. Park topside along the highway at the south entrance, then stroll through the woods and across a rope bridge to a gorgeous cove. You'll see some maniacs surfing, no doubt! It was my annual New Years Day treat to myself.
Enjoy all that the PacNW has to offer, and soak it all in!
Safe passages, Judy!

I posted that at 4am Adelaide time - couldn't sleep thinking about everything we had to do before we fly out this afternoon - and I see that I wasn't very clear about where in the PNW we're going.
Our friends live in Big Lake, which is just out of Mt Vernon. We can almost see Mt Baker from their house, so I'm sure some trips there will be on the agenda. I think we're spending Christmas at our friends' cabin, which is 4 hours east of Big Lake, and they promise us there will be snow.
But we will definitely be visiting Seattle and that wonderful bookshop and Pike Place Market. Thanks for the tip about the bodies exhibition, BlueDog
And the islands, Rainey. We didn't get to them last year as we only had 6 days, but this year for sure.
Jen, we went to Crater Lake last year in October, it was cold, but we do have a photo of me in shorts with the temperature about 5C. _________________ Doing what you like is freedom

My Mother has shown at The Blue Horse Gallery in Bellingham but, currently has nothing on display. Keep an eye out for work by Helen Dorn and Janet Hamilton, they are good friends of my mom's and are often on display.
Oh Bellingham, how I wish I was there too! I am so jealous of you Judy. _________________ "It's watery....and yet there's a smack of ham."
