Apart from toasted sandwiches?
We have just bought one for toasted sandwiches, but my mother-in-law cooks suberb roast potatoes in hers and it would be great to know what else goes well in them.
Or anything to avoid cooking in them too. _________________ Doing what you like is freedom

I've never had one, but I set one on fire at work once. Oops! _________________ "It's watery....and yet there's a smack of ham."

You can cook just anything as its an oven but smaller.... You can bake brownies and cakes... Lazania... Chicken but anything you choose to cook but in small portions. I prepare wonderful Potato Gratin for two people... |

I lilke to make cookie dough and then freeze the balls of dough on a cookie sheet. Once frozen I pop them into a ziploc. When we need a cookie fix, I can pull out 9 or so and cook them in the toaster oven. That way we don't heat up the kithcen as much and get warm cookies! I also used it to make the sweet potato casserole this past thanksgiving. In Virginia I had two ovens but now I only have one - a problem when preparing turkey day dinner. |

I bought a new toaster oven last month - an Oster - and it's large enough to cook almost anything - casseroles, pizza, cookies, baked potatoes, roasted potatoes (it's a convection toaster oven and makes fabulous roasted potatoes!), biscuits, toad in the hole, toast, oven "fried" fish and chicken, and much much more. During the summer we hate to use the big oven since it heats up the kitchen and house, and the toaster oven is perfect for everything I want to cook. If you're contemplating getting a new one, get one with the convection feature - especially if you like roasted veggies. _________________ My blog: http://cyndicooks.com |

My favorite is English muffin pizzas. Quick, easy, and very yummy.
I just split however many I want open, spread tomato sauce and some mozzarella cheese. Turn the toaster oven on for about five to ten minutes. Voila, a treat even a ten year old can make. _________________ Live as if to die tomorrow. Learn as if to live forever.

My last year at University I made a deal with my two roomates. I cooked (up to 5 nights a week), and they did the cleaning. The issue, our little apartment only had a 2 burner hotplate, a toaster oven and a microwave oven. Since I don't believe in microwaves (I know they exist, I just don't use 'em), I cooked just about everything and anything in the toaster oven. We even used to have some of our friends over for Star Trek TNG dinner parties. I think I managed dinner for 10 out of that kitchen.
Sigh, I am such a geek! _________________ Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon. - The Dalai Lama |

It reached a high of 105 degrees here today so I am cooking everything in my toaster oven tonight. Salmon burgers and oven baked "french fries". It is a great tool when you don't want to heat the house up. |

Prior to about a month ago, I've been using a toaster oven to cook roast potatoes and roasted garlic as most houses/flats in Shanghai don't come with an oven. Now, I'm the proud tenant of an oven-equipped flat, I just use the toaster oven to make sandwiches and toast nuts. _________________ Te amo y no te amo como si tuviera

I really like my toaster oven. It's just my husband and I, so it's great in the summer especially, because we don't have to heat up the whole house with the large oven. I like to make chicken, breakfast sausages and the like in mine. But everytime I try cookies or baking, they burn on the outside without getting done on the inside. Anyone know what's going wrong there? _________________ http://apartmentfarm.wordpress.com

Kitchensqueen, it sounds like the toaster oven is too hot, so maybe turn it down (or make sure you aren't accidentally using the broil setting!). This is odd, though, because I can never get my toaster oven hot enough to cook a chicken breast in less than 45 minutes.
Good luck! |

Other than toasting sandwiches, I typically use it to reheat leftovers lol _________________ Fruit Baskets |
