Melinda, generally I don't mail order food, but I do use the following for holiday gifts and find them very reliable and top quality. As I said, it's not food, but candy, coffee, spices. Perhaps you'll find something your friends would like. It's a start...
For candy, an old, traditional California company:
www.sees.com
For coffee/tea, etc.:
www.peets.com
For spices and gift combos:

We did mail-order wine one year, getting about 2 bottles every 2 months (they came in a nifty foam pack and box for two).
Check out your favourite winery to see if they offer this. Otherwise, this is the one we bought from: http://www.fessparker.com.
Enjoy! _________________ Tell a friend about http://www.foodvirgin.com . Explains everything newbies need to know when dining out on a new foreign cuisine. |

The site you are looking for is food411. It is a great online food directory site that hand picks the resources - great food finds and suggestions for food gifts. I just ordered from one of the vegan site that send gourmet meals!! Its great. Look under the "Let Others Cook" section

This stuff http://www.crestaurant.com/store.cfm?sphoto=smoked_salt.jpg is awesome! And mail order is the only way I know to get it outside BC where I discovered it. Some Whole Foods are reported to sell it but, alas!, not mine even though I've begged. So I'm still doling out tiny bits from my tin.
What makes it so wonderful is that it's a light, crunchy flake like Maldon crystals (only smaller) and the flavor is an enhancement of smokiness for fish or fresh tomatoes. There are other smoked salts to be sure but I haven't found another that stops short of overwhelming like this one does.
They have other flavors and, it seems, more since the last time I checked out the site. Of the other ones I've tasted there are lovely things but the smoked salt is far and away distinctive and excellent. _________________ God writes a lot of comedy... the trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny. -- Garrison Keillor |

Don't miss my favorite - Zingerman's: http://www.zingermans.com
It's an awesome little deli in Ann Arbor, MI, with a powerhouse of a bakery (you can buy their bread online), lots of unique chocolates, cheeses, salts, vinegar & olive oils, fig cake, mustards, etc. Their buyer is very talented! |
