This may be old news to some of you--

The Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery -- I discovered this event through Barbara, a poster here. Just a list of past topics had me hooked:

http://www.oxfordsymposium.org.uk/proceedings.html

It is an annual meeting of food scholars and historians--looking ahead to 2009, the subject will be "Food and Language" -- I'm fascinated already. Ruth Reichl gave the opening speech for this year's "Food and Morality" topic.
Every cookbook we open is napped/braised/oozing with history, yes?
These talented interested people research the history and share it.

The Old Foodie wrote about attending The Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery in a few posts earlier this month.

For anyone interested in the history of food, recipes and eating, her blog is a must-read.

Yes, The Old Foodie is great fun to read, always! She and Barbara mention each other in their blogs sometimes.

Oh, to have the time to read all the must-reads!

I had lunch with The Old Foodie (Janet) this week and really enjoyed hearing her first hand experience of the Oxford Symposium. It is an annual event and she is already making plans to attend another one. I'm very tempted also. She describes it as academic without being boring.
