Clotilde and others who have read it, I just finished Bento Box in the Heartland and would love to know what you thought of it.

Hello Adnil, and welcome to the forums!
I really liked the book and the insights it gave into the author's childhood, and the way she dealt with her Japanese/American culture.
I think the writing style could have been polished a bit further -- there were a few too many "...I didn't understand it at the time, but..." and "...it's not until later that I understood that..." -- but other than that I thought it an enjoyable read.
And I have also bookmarked some of the recipes to try. Smile
What did you think?
Clotilde.

Having grown up in the 50's as a first generation Filipino/American in very caucasian neighborhoods, a lot of what she told hit close to home. I do agree with you about the writing style, yet every time she said, "...it wasn't until later that I understood..." I could recall parental behaviors I didn't agree with at the time but in my adult life came to realize why they acted in such a fashion. Not that I would have done the same thing then. Anyway, I did enjoy it very much and thank you for making me aware of it.

Last Saturday, I made the gyoza. They were quite good. I plan to make the rice balls soon for our lunches at work.

I am so enjoying your C&Z site and probably spend more time on it than I should. But then, having only recently joined, I do have a lot of catching up to do.
