But here it is, just for you Very Happy

The pictures are very telling, but I can't wait to see the English version! Did you by any chance taste those dried starfish and seahorses on a stick? I'd be willing to try it just for the sake of being adventurous.

I was pretty sure it wasn't your prose that was wacky, Swan. It does give your writing a certain 'edge', though.

To see the English translation of Swan's blog, visit

http://translate.google.com/

Then put Swan's blog URL http://jaap-en-mickey.blogspot.com in the Translate text, webpage, or document window at the top of the page, select Dutch and English, and then read and have a laugh.

thanks for the encouragement! I'm considering the options of an English blog - perhaps translations, perhaps just another one, in English, more foodrelated possibly...I'll keep you informed. Just wondering if my written English is 1) good enough grammar-and-language-wise and 2) I get compliments about my style of writing in Dutch. Not sure I can keep the quality in a second language. But that's a whole different topic. We'll see.

For now I've put every goodie I bought on the table (like a child with B-day presents) and enjoying the sight of it! The caramel spread from the pattisier near you, Debbie, is indeed fantastic, the ' bitter' sirup makes a nice change to all the water I drink (I love ' bitter' flavour like campari, sanbitter, crodino, and now found a sirup, yey!) and all the goodies just look so inviting...(caramel-praline mustard, anyone?!??!)

Swan, your written English is definitely good enough. So is your spoken English.

I remember being surprised to learn that English wasn't your first language, after you had been posting here for a while.

Exactly, Judy--nothing in Swan's posts ever made me think English was not her 1st language.
Swan, I hungrily look at all pictures of course, but also the Dutch text. What delightful words! "Vliegtuigraampje" "Kussenloopjes" ?? There are 8 or 10 in every paragraph, it seems. Like a language to be marveled at rather than pronounced. I visited Holland (30+ years ago) and marvelled to hear it spoken too.
It was fun to figure out "slaapkamer"--sleep chamber--bedroom! (Correct?)
I love that extra "j" in Parijs.
When I read "een hippe lokale" I wondered if it meant a local hippie (person), or a hip locale (place).
And after each post, to add a comment, you click on the word "reacties"--
reacties--little reactions--perfect way to describe a comment!

Godo heavens swan, never question your English skills! Heavens you speak and write better than a lot of us whose first language (and often only) is English!

Love the photos in your blog and, sigh, put it down to my own inattentiveness but yes indeed, it comes up perfectly well on the www button thingy--I'm just a tad shortsighted sometimes!

dears, your encouragement is heartwarming! I'm seriously considering and in my mind already designing this second blog of mine. Will be in Vietnam next week for a while, and whilst Jaap will be working, I might get to actually set up ' swan's place'.
When opened, I'll send invitations.....

Gingerpale, " vliegtuigraampje" is the window of an airplane, " kussensloopje" is pillowcase, but the nice onces, for cushions on the couch. In this story. 'cause the word goes for 'bed' pillowcases as well. You got the ' bedchamber ' right!! I was writing about ' een hippe lokale winkel" which in this case means a hip, local store. Could actually be both your explanations though the second one sounds more vlamish to me than proper dutch, because the word ' lokaal' as a thing means classroom Smile .Language - love it!

Ok, after all this support I did it!!!
I opened ' Swan's place' and you're all welcome. Imagine tea, applepie, books, recipies and good company.
I'm still polishing the looks, but you are all invited!!
