I hope this turns out to be fun and I don't get any hate mail about moral issues.
If you were given the wish to have your ideal foods prepared to perfection in any variety and quantity and then eaten with no physical remnants the next morning -- i.e., you wake up with an empty stomach and no trace of excess salt, fat, calories, et cetera -- what would you choose?
I'll go first:
Main Courses
-6 corn fritters
-6 apple fritters
-2 corn dogs with Dijon mustard
-2 ears of fresh sweet corn with butter
-12 baked mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese
-slices of fried eggplant and fried green tomatos
Fruit
-slices of fresh pineapple
-2 fresh mangos
Desert
-1 slice blueberry pie
-1 slice pecan pie
-1 slice pumpkin pie
-1 large piece of cheesecake with blueberry topping
Post Prandial
-1 box chocolates
Now, you walk into the dining room the food is prepared and waiting for you, you sit down to eat, and a door opens and your ideal mate walks into the room. Now, here's the choice, you can continue with the food, or you can forgo the food in exchange for a night with your ideal mate (this person has to be living and a real person). Again, no moral or physical consequences so you married folks should have no qualms about picking someone besides your spouse. And again, no guilt in the morning. What do you choose? And you can't pick both the food and allow the ideal companion to join you for dinner.
My ideal companion for the evening would be the opera soprano Renee Fleming. Now, I contemplate my choices and decide to take the food.
I suppose I'd live to regret my choice and later wish I'd had picked the girl. _________________ ' She says, 'I am the glamorous type.' I said, 'So what?'
Hello Sarape,
Couldn't you pick the girl for that night and have your dream dinner the next day? Especially if its Renee Flemong:she is certainly booked out most of the other evenings, so if that's her night off, enjoy now and eat tomorrow. Food never goes to work.
But, I have to admit , that at this point in my life, I can easier imagine the dream dinner than the dream man. I'm getting old, I believe... But , oh , I like to play with the idea ..
No more war, more dream dinners together with a dream companion!
I do Sarape, i do1 It's just difficult to make the choices.
Soup Course--lobster bisque
Appetizer------seared foie gras, a double portion
Mains-----------bouef bourgignon/rack of lamb
scallopped potatoes
asparagus with hollandaise sauce
Dessert---------huge slab of chocolate pate
Ile flottant!
And I'm going to get in trouble with Erin for this but Johnny Depp enters the room for the evening.
I go back to dinner and give Johnny my phone number and a wink. _________________ Vivant Linguae Mortuae!!
Ok, if that's the game, i'll try too. I have more difficulties to thinkof
my dream man than my dream dinner. OK I'll try, just in case:
Food:
Appetizer:blini with beluga and a touch of creme fraiche accompanied with ice cold Vodka /mini tosast with bloc de foie gras.
first course : a dozen or so of oysters served on ice with rye bread
and a chilled white wine
main course : a huge cote de boeuf, medium rare, with roasted potatoes and creamed spinach, with a hearty Bordeaux to slide it down
fromage: one or two pieces of chevre, a small piece of roquefort, some grapes .
desert: I'm not a desert person, but I could manage a good creme brulee or a divine tarte tatin with a scoop of real vanilla ice cream. A good coniac will be a fine final touch.
Not a very original menu, just basics. ( If I could have two dream dinners, the second one would be a real authentic Chinese feast )
Now about the dream man : one of the following: Marcello Mastroiani,
Peter O'Toole, Vittorio Gassman, definitely Yves Montand...I don't know.
I'll choose the meal anyway! I'm a very realistic - some say cynical-person, I don't believe in dream men, I never was never a groopie. It seemed so stupid to adore somebody who doesn't even know you exist.

I must be particularly dense today; I had to read the Rules a couple of times and I still don't know if I got them right!
Food or Companionship, but not BOTH???
Well, than food it is, since there's no one other than my Sally that I'd like to spend just ONE night with, chatting. If I liked them, I'd be too sad that I could never contact them again.
I know that I'm supposed to have a de-lux International meal HERE, to be sufficiently viewed as sophisticated, but I'm hitting the "Default" button and having a meal from my past.
I'd love, if for ONE night, I could have any of my Grandma's Farm Table spreads that she'd serve to the farm hands and Grandpa and I during Harvest Season.
*Pot Roast: done to perfection, with crispy end bits for me to chew on.
*Carrots: by the boat-load! I love, love, LOVE steamed carrots with butter on top.
*New Potatoes with butter and fresh dill.
*Asparagus
*Fresh Peas
*A water glass with Spring Onions. My Grandpa and I would have "Onion Eating Contests" at the table, to see who could eat the most spring onions. (I think he'd let me win...)
*Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp, with fresh cream, right from the cows, that you pour off the top of the milk.
*Home-made Angel Food Cake, with Strawberries and Whipped Cream filling inside of it, and Whipped Cream frosting. (Note to Mega Companies: I did NOT say COOL WHIP....gross!!!!
*Fresh Well-Water (I didn't drink coffee or tea when I was young, just water. And no wine, either.
Alternative meal, tying into Sarape's love of...er...junk food:
All food from The Minnesota State Fairgrounds:
*Corn Dogs, slathered in yellow mustard
*Tom Thumb Donuts, from the Minnesota State Fair
*Turkey Burgers, Turkey Burgers, Turkey Burgers (that's the only way I know them...a "carnie-barker" yelling out their name, three times in a row, for hours
*Fried Cheese Curds
*Endless Glasses of Fresh Milk for a Dime, where the y have a commercial Milk Tank, wrap around wood booths, and they give you a paper cup for a dime, and you just gorge on milk.
*Giant Cups of French Fries, with the peel still on them
*Cotton Candy

Foie gras on toasted bread with a glass of Chateau d'Yquem.
The White Truffle dish we had Le Grand Cascade, Paris in 2001.
Lobster with melted butter and a bottle of Roederer Cristal champagne.
A bowl of thin fries with Maldon salt.
A sliver of St Nectaire cheese with green grapes.
A slice of watermelon from my Grandfather's garden.
A small serving of each beacause I can't choose just one:
Vanilla Panna Cotta with poached white peach.
Creme Brulee
A slice of Tarte Tatin with fresh cream
A shot of Espresso coffee (preferably from a village in Spain) with a piece of dark Valrhona chocolate.
A cup of Green Tea (made with large leaf tea from Sri Lanka and not teabags).
Only one man? Well it would have to be my husband. _________________ Barbara

Okay, here goes:
Dinner:
Sangria with pineapple and oranges
Morels cooked in white wine with chives
Grilled ramps
Braised baby artichokes
Buticha with injera
Soba noodles with peanut sauce
Tamales with tomatillo sauce
Dessert:
Mango with sticky rice
Anything made with the white chocolate mousse they make at Millenium: stuffed into cannoli shells, topping a tart, or with chocolate, I don't care, as long as I get to eat that mousse!
And I would drop it ALL for a night with Gael Garcia Bernal. Absolutely. Just one night.

I'm not going to arrange my dinner into courses. I can't even see some of these foods in the same meal together.
Foie gras
Quail with truffle sauce
Chevre and olive salad on crusty bread
Rack of lamb
Rajas (strips of fire-roasted poblano chile)
Freshly-dug new potatoes
Mango with candied ginger
A small piece of dense, bittersweet chocolate
Red wine appropriate to food
I'd give it up in a heartbeat to spend the evening with Terry, my dearly beloved companion, best friend & the most amazing man I've ever met. But I'd try to sneak the chevre to him -- it's one of his favorites, too!

After seeing the corn-dog photos from the Minnesota State Fair, I'll just request as many corn dogs as I can eat. Maybe to add some variety in case I get bored, a deep-dish Chicago pizza.
All of that and no guilt in the morning. _________________ ' She says, 'I am the glamorous type.' I said, 'So what?'
