A Trip to the Butcher

My father's 90th birthday party this weekend. Had had a chat with the butcher about a stuffed loin of pork...yep, it would be ok if I brought in the stuffing...he'd fix it up..tie etc...

Off to the butcher I went, with a bowl of stuffing. As I handed it over the counter he said "Mmmmmmmmm smells nice!" Irish accent has Pat.

His boss also smelt...and asked for the recipe ~ I felt like one of those grandmas saying..."oh a bit of this and a handful of that."

Dad's nickname is Bon. Given name, Ignatius. Pat scored BON on the skin ~ fun food. Should be more of it I reckon...

I'd love to read of your fun food stories..

Still partying Madame!!

Some years ago for a friends birthday dinner I made a Beef Wellington and constructed the pastry casing to look like a parcel complete with ribbon and card with "Happy Birthday Pete" in pastry letters. If only I'd thought to take a photo of it at the time!

Here's hoping for another fun day for Bon.

Three years after their civil ceremony, I catered the Viking wedding of good friends a few years ago. It was a weekend-long event filled with much merriment. The wedding was also researched to include as many authentic Viking-age details as possible, which meant that the theme of fertility was paramount. The bread I baked for the head table was shaped into fertility-related loaves. (Google for images of Freyr from Norse mythology) Wink The couple was trying to start a family at the time, so this was taken in good humor, as well as having been approved by the bride beforehand.
