ah...you've arrived at the Help Desk!

we're having a "Once Upon a Time Party"...things fairytaleish...

'n are hoping to have many fairytaleish haikus printed on large sheets of paper...placed high up near the ceilings....party folk are going to have to put fairy tale to haiku...

much Rapunzel plait making..pumpkin coach making...this, my friends, is a party and a half! glass slipper...I suggested we make one out of toffee... Rolling Eyes thought the family..

so, any haikus from you would be a wonderful help...

merci in advance

You're kind to be so encouraging but I'm over 17 syllables and aren't there other rules? Something about being about nature, having three lines and the third line being a non-sequitur?

rules smhules Rainey....

for moi, the rules are 3 lines and the 5/7/5 thing

'n that's it...from then on ya play in the haiku sandpit...

sunstreaked apple blossom de winter

Rainey 'n haiku
perhaps food-based is the go
yeasty wordy feast

Sophie, our daughter, is wondering why I've not mentioned the planned gingerbread house..."it being a food forum and all" said she Wink

rules ask to be either broken or stretched...

'specially the rules of haiku...

Rainey, take a trip to the seaside....bucket 'n spade...and splash the rules a bit...

haikus are awaiting..

Deadline for party haikus? Party over, or just getting planned? Anyhoo, here are 2. (I tried!)

Pampered princess seeks
Nothing. Fairyland is hers
And one extra pea.

Go answer the door!
It's Hans Christian Andersen!
And he's got a book!

Such compressed poems
with seventeen syllables
can't have much meaning.

(stolen from Godel, Escher & Bach by Douglas Hofstader).

Haiku! the chores can do themselves--

Also from "G,E,B:", but paraphrased--

The following words
Are false. The preceding words
Are true. Help me know!

Sorry Madame, just a little wordplay with Massachusetts, it was fun!

Will furrow brow, chew pencil, think about very small people with wings and such.

Oh dear, I fee like such a klutz even mentioning this in such exalted company, but I don't even know how to start composing a kaiku. So can we just sneak back to Poetry 101 for a minute, please?

3 lines, 17 syllables, right? But the syllables have to be distributed in a certain way, don't they? And what other rules are there? And if any of you can tell me the all rules in a haiku, I'll give you extra points. Thanks BG, but I get the feeling thereare rules more than you described on yours, non?

Jude's Haiku 101

three lines 'n cutting
five seven five syllabled/
kigo eg snow

Judy Darling...the kigo is a seasonal word...so traditionally one should know what season the haiku is set in...the cutting divides the haiku..the two sections are connected, yet not

now, with pen in hand, and breathtaking handmade paper, go to it!

the alphabet awaits...playtime!!!
