Erin I was curious, and found this
http://www.richw.org/dualcit/
last night--it answered a lot of my questions. (Not thinking of getting dual citizenship, but it was interesting to see that I could! I have a set of grandparents born in Ireland too--county o' Westmeath.)
I wish citizenship would magically include a perfect accent/brogue for the language in question! |

Erin,
You will not have any tax liabilities for just having an Irish passport - however I think all US passport holders must pay federal taxes. It can take some time to get a passport, an Indian friend who is becoming a citizen by naturalisation has been told that it will be 15 months before he gets his (he has fulfilled the requirements and sent in all the forms already).
There is loads more information on

Very cool thank you! I knew a bit about what happens on the US side of things, I've got some relatives with dual citizenship. Of course it's only recognized by Canada. Thanks a lot Gingerpale, because the preceeding is pretty much the extent of my knowledge! _________________ "It's watery....and yet there's a smack of ham."

Erin, how are you going with obtaining your Irish Passport/Citizenship?
My passport finally came in the mail a week or two ago. Now my dad truly believes I have become "French" in the official sense of the word of course
We've decided to get the working-holiday visa for Sy. Hopefully this will give him a bit of a "foot in the door" so to speak, in finding a more permanent job and subsequent work permits etc.
Debbie, is there anymore advise you can give me? Is there anything I've forgotton, or haven't stumbled across yet?
Only 6 months to go... |
