Hi, I will be in Paris next Sat-Tues and I'd like to buy some Jacques Genin caramels. Anyone know where I can do that? I've tried searching the internet and found reference to a store that stopped selling it recently, and in a comment in Chocolate & Zucchini there was another address but as it was 2 years old I'm not sure if it's really there.
Thanks! |

To my knowledge, Genin's caramels can only be purchased by the kilogram and from the man himself: you should call him at 01 45 77 29 01 to place your order, and he'll tell you when you can pick it up from his production lab, at 18 rue Saint-Charles in the 15th.
Hope that helps!

I think he understands basic English and probably replies in French -- as many French people do -- but you'll get by. As for the price, I believe it's 60 euros per kilo.

cigalechanta-- please describe the mango caramels! Were they
(a) regular caramels with bits of mango
(b) regular caramels with mango puree
(c) some sort of confection made with mango, like fruit leather or "pates de fruit", not really a caramel
(d) none of the above?
Did they taste more like fruit, or caramel? |

they're a very soft caramel with a taste of mango, that you don't see. They put them on your pillow at the Relais St Germain. I'll see if my friend will post a description as she bought a kilo. _________________ Sharing food with another human being is an intimate act that should not be indulged in lightly

Thank you cigalechanta--they sound so good--and unique, perfect for giving as gifts. And if there's a way to get mango into a caramel, other fruits might work too--I'm thinking of pineapple.
I made those salted caramels last year at Christmastime, it's not hard at all and they are spectacular! |

Hi all, I was wondering if you guys would know...I will be in Paris at the end of December, is it possible to get some caramels then? I can only imagine how busy he is during the holidays if he does take any orders. How much of an early warning should I give him then? Thanks again. I have never had these and would really really want to try them and bring some back home to Montreal.
Have a nice day,
Annie |
