My mother bought me an orange-box scarf many years ago as a special treat when we were out shopping. I treasure it. Even though I've considered adding to my collection, having just that one special scarf brings back such great memories that I haven't needed to take the plunge.

Andrew...remember, way back when, when I said I "liked your style"? Please allow me to repeat myself... Geez, kiddo, who raised you? Give those people a big bouquet!

(My grandchildren call me "Nana", too. With 2 granddaughters, I guess I'll have to get myself another scarf. Time to start dropping hints...)

Okay, there have been 5 or 6 mentions of the orange box, but no descriptions of the scarves themselves!

I peeked at the website (for about an hour) and found a favorite, not one of the horseriding designs though.

How to describe the indescribable?

The scarves are exactly the same as any other scarf if you ignore the quality of the silk, the richness of the colours and the design.

They measure 90 square centimetres , weigh 65 grams, are hand-printed and hand-stitched.

Does that help?

I thought not?

Imagine the difference between a Premier Cru and a box of cheap plonk, an artisan baguette & wonderbread. That's the difference between the scarves in the orange box & Gucci's best.

Georgia,

You're making me blush again.

I'm just an ordinary guy.

Nothing special. Exept my inordinate charm & sophistication that is. Laughing

Laughing Yeah, that and the unswerving modesty!!

You convince nobody with your statement of being ordinary Andrew. Anyone who would take his wife and child to Paris can hardly be called ordinary. Romantic, charming, sophisticated, warm-hearted possibly. But ordinary you ain't!

Don't worry, we won't tell! Wink

I've been buying the scarves for a long time when in Paris and two scarves, if one is slim enough, make a great skirt, just tie the ends but I only realized, the ones called vintage are the smaller size I prefer.
The pocket ones, I bought one for my dog. They are an investment because they can be sold again as I have when my finances went down the drain.

Thank you, Barbara! Google Images allows me to see your scarf design--a beauty. I *think* I like the realistic (pictures of objects) better than the abstract designs, but of course in the end all would depend on the colors. And thanks to Andrew I know how much it weighs Wink

Cigalechanta--a skirt from 2! Not something I'd be likely to try, but I appreciate the Bohemian flair I'm picturing. At the Hermes site, a little tutorial on different ways to arrange the scarf--a backless halter-top-type blouse among them, very cool.

If you ever have the joy of meeting Cigalechanta you will know that Boho would certainly be a style suited to this lady!

My favorite is over 30 years old and has various mushrooms. Years later I was able to buy the ceramic mushrooms that were used in the display.
The last one was toits de Paris, it pictures roofs, a woman looking out her window, a white cat walking and mice on a ledge while birds fly overhead.

David, me BOHO..lol...I don't think so!

My orange-box scarf is called "Kachinas", designed by Kermit Oliver, the only US-born designer for Hermes. I was thrilled to have one of his designs because he lived (maybe he still lives there) in the town where I grew up.

Here is the scarf, which is more even more intensely colorful and beautiful in person:

I only wear the scarf during the cold months - something about endless 100 degree weather makes a scarf very uncomfortable in the summer!

In another life I had to wear a tie every day; but when I changed lives, I could not bring myself to get rid of my Hermes ties. Any ideas of how to use them, other than around my neck?
