I'm traveling to Kenya for 2 1/2 weeks in December. I have absolutely no idea what the food is like. Also, I've been really lazy about reading those guidebooks I bought. Anyway, the best advice always comes from fellow travelers, I reason.
1) Are there any dishes or types of food I should really try while I'm in Kenya? I'll be in Nairobi for a week and then on safari (where I won't have a choice as to what I'll eat).
2) What places should I really make an effort to visit in Nairobi?
Thanks in advance if you have anything to share, even if it's just well wishes for a safe trip! I'm sure I'll come back with some amazing pictures. _________________ "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!" --- Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I am sooooo envious!
Would love to go there, but missed out on a fabulous trip last year through my husbands work as I was studying and couldn't afford the time..... ggrrrr
Please share photos when you get back. You are going to have an amazing time and see wonderful sights. _________________ If you cannot feel your arteries hardening, eat more cheese. If you can, drink more red wine. Diet is just "die" with a "t" on the end. Exercise is walking into the kitchen. |

oh harpospeaking, how wonderful!
It's been a while, so I'm not sure on the food-side, but I remember enjoying visiting Karen Blixen's house, as well as the Giraffe Centre where you'll get a chance to see them very up close - they have the greatest eyelashes...
you can find some tips on what to do and where to eat on tripadvisor:

But going on a safari will be the very highlight - the rest of the world, your job, bankaccount and so on really all of a sudden doesn't matter at all anymore when you're eye-to-eye with the wildlife.
Enjoy, look, smell, take it all in!! _________________ http://swans-place.blogspot.com

I hate to say this, but the food in Kenya was not very memorable. In most restaurants, you are likely to find British food and Indian food. There doesn't seem to be any regional Kenyan dishes in most restaurants but I'm sure that the local people have their own recipes.
We ate at the popular restaurant Carnivore in Nairobi. Back in the day, they used to serve exotic game meat but now they're no different from any Brazilian barbecue restaurant, but with a smaller selection of meat and side dishes. I wouldn't recommend coming here.
Other than that, the scenery on safari is amazing. You'll see things you won't forget for a very long time. _________________ "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!" --- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
