Try Chez Omar in the 3rd for great couscous at very reasonable prices. It's across rue Bretagne from the Marie. No reservations and cash only - you may have to wait outside for a bit unless you arrive early (i.e. 19:30).
Find a market day on one of your three days. Pick from eleven types of strawberries . . .
Have butter and have cheese.
I also agree with creampuff - try the smaller museums like the Marmottan or the Max Fourny Musée d'Art Naïf (18th).

We were recently in Paris for 5 days. As we had the whole family with us we were looking for a budget hotel in a busy area. We stayed at the Mont Blanc on Rue de la Huchette. It is in the heart of the Latin Quarter near the University in a pedestrian only area filled with restaurants, bars and shops. We could walk everywhere - 5 min to Notre Dame, 20 min to the Louvre or the Orsay, 5 min to the Cluny and if we didn't feel like walking 30 seconds to a Metro stop. The rooms were perfectly adequate - what one would expect for that price in Paris. The bathrooms were tiny but newly remodeled. And, even though it was a busy street we were not bothered by street noise late at night. Room rates were 55 euro for a single, 75 for a double and 105 for a triple. And, if it matters, the desk personnel speak English. September should be a lovely time to be in Paris - have fun.

Alex: You've got some incredible advice in this thread! What knowledge creampuff and K Zeller have regarding Paris.
Another option you might think of, since you have access to a computer, is to go to priceline.com and look at "package deals." I'm currently thinking of going to Paris with Sally for 2 solid weeks in October, and I did a search on priceline for Hotel/Airfair/Car. There were NO car offers, but the price that I got RIGHT now for 14 days in Paris and return air fair for each of us is an astonishingly low $840.0! That's only SIXTY DOLLARS PER DAY, for staying at the Paris Hilton!
Each room has the following:
AM/FM Alarm clock radio
Fire alarms/Smoke detectors/Sprinklers
In-room movies - Pay Per View
Telephone w/ auto wakeup, voice mail & data port
Work desk with lamp
Video Games featured on TV
ADA-approved rooms available
Non smoking rooms available
And you are located THISCLOSE to these attractions:
Eiffel Tower - 0 Kilometers
Orsay Museum - 2 Kilometers
Louvre Museum - 3 Kilometers
Arc de Triomphe/Champs Elysees - 3 Kilometers
Notre Dame Cathedral - 3 Kilometers
Sacre Coeur Basilic - 5 Kilometers
Disneyland Paris - 35 Kilometers
So, check our priceline to see if you can maximize your time/money ratio. _________________ Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.
