All advance purchase, except for a few evenings in mid-January, are sold out. Lines are ugly and the weather for waiting is awful. What to do?

If you really want to see the Monet exhibit and can afford the added price, a season pass for the Grand Palais will get you in with no lines and as often as you want. A Sesame Solo pass for one is 50€ incl online fees. A Duo pass for two is 84€.

Here is the official ticket site:

You'll need to have a photo for uploading. It will appear on the pass you download. I think (but am not sure) for the Duo there is one primary person with photo. That person can bring any second person any time.

A reader called Winifred01 on Trip Advisor added the following useful info to my post there, for people who don't have access to a PC and printer:

You can also buy the Carte Sesame season ticket at the Grand Palais. Go to barrier for that and tell them you want to go in to buy. Bring a passport-sized photo with you. You will be directed up the entrance steps where there is a quick-moving (2 mins apx) queue for security. Then go to the Carte Sesame desk at the back, facing door. It only takes a few mins to purchase and you can view the exhibition there and then.

You may use the carte once a day thereafter. It also entitles you to reductions for headphones, cafe, etc.

Added by Randy: There is sometimes a separate entrance at Grand Palais to buy the Sesame pass. It's also available in person at FNAC stores. Don't forget the small ID photo.
