I'm going on a trip to Italy for three weeks, and I heard that you can get pretty good sea urchin in Venice. Has anyone tried uni or sea urchin there?
By the way, I saw the uni on a Japanese travel show and the uni is served on the half-shell with bread. I'm dying to try it! |

I just left Venice and I am in Tuscany now. A seafood merchant at the fish market near San Rialto bridge confirmed for me that although they sell sea urchin in the market, no cafes or restaurants serve it in Venice. I will try and find some here near the coast. Having a wonderful time! Thanks for all your advice from the CZ boards! _________________ "Help! Help! Update from Florence: My new friend in Florence, Barbara, who taught my half day cooking class just informed me that right now sea urchin is poisonous at this time of year. She said that they are more plentiful and safer to eat in December. Timing is everything. _________________ "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!" --- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
