nickiemae...it was fun doing some googling...

http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/food_and_drink/features/article22688.ece

there's a nice list of cheese shops...my sister-in-law sings sings sings the praises of La Fromagerie 2-4 Moxon Street, London W1, tel: 020 7935 0341, www.lafromagerie.co.uk ~ she lived near there and used to buy the most scrumptious cheeses..

I know the web page is more than cheese..however it does look fun...PLUS I note one of the judges was none other than Terry Durack...a dear Oz lad who now lives in England.....I could read his writing forever...and ever..

hope you come across some cheeses that knock your socks off..

Yes, in London La Fromagerie is the best place for French cheeses and Neal's Yard Dairy for British ones. Some of the food halls (Selfridges etc) have a good range but not necessarily the expert service you get in a specialist shop. Outside of London most large towns have one decent delicatessen with a good range of cheeses: the one I know best is the Cambridge Cheese Shop which is on All Saints Passage - a really good place for all kinds of cheese, charcuterie and other treats.

This is an old post but in case anyone is rereading I thought I would mention Paxton and Whitfield on Jermyn street near Piccadilly. Fabulous. I'm debating whether to start a cheese and olive tour as well. I prefer La Fromagerie to Neal's Yard personally. There are also amazing cheeses at the market. The Marylebone market on Saturday's in the church yard has incredible italian cheeses - especially the mozerella, the truffle cheese and a drunken cheese.
