My other post aside, I really am particularly fond of Oh Holy Night. In fact, I've got a long list of favorites that I can't take the time to post now (mostly because I'll have to look up titles. I could simply sing them for you but I'm afraid I'd sound much like Fred McKinnon...).
What are yours? Anyone know any obscure ones you'd care to share with us? Anyone got any good links to real (sorry, Fred) carols?
I'm actually (Bill O'Reilly and Jerry Falwell notwithstanding) very fond of Christmas and I'm ramping myself up for The Day.
Wishing you all merriness to get you well past 1/1/2006! _________________ God writes a lot of comedy... the trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny. -- Garrison Keillor

Here's an Aussie Christmas carol, written by Rolf Harris in 1960.
Six White Boomers
Early on one Christmas Day, a Joey Kanga-roo
Was far from home and lost in a great big zoo
Mummy, where's my mummy, they've taken her a-way
We'll help you find your mummy son, hop on the sleigh
[Verse:]
Up beside the bag of toys, little Joey hopped
But they had'nt gone far when Santa stopped
Un-harnessed all the reindeer and Joey wondered why
Then he heard a far off booming in the sky
[Chorus:]
Six white boomers, snow white boomers
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun
Six white boomers, snow white boomers
.. On his Aus-tra-lian run
Pretty soon old Santa began to feel the heat
Took his fur-lined boots off to cool his feet
Into one popped Joey, feeling quite OK
While those old man kangaroos kept pulling on the sleigh
Joey said to Santa, Santa, what about the toys
Aren't you giving some to these girls and boys
They've all got their presents son, we were here last night
This trip is an extra trip, Joey's special flight
Soon the sleigh was flashing past, right ovr Marble Bar
Slow down there, cried Santa, it can't be far
Come up on my lap son, and have a look around
There she is, that's mummy, bounding up and down
Well that's the bestest Christmas treat that Joey ever had
Curled up in mother's pouch all snug and glad
The last they saw was Santa headed northward from the sun
The only year the boomers worked a double run _________________ Doing what you like is freedom

My absolute favorite traditional carol is "Oh Holy Night" also, but I've also discovered this year an English Carol called "The Holly and the Ivy" and it is so lovely to hear. But my favorite Christmas song is "Santa Baby", the 1954 version performed by Eartha Kitt, it's just so cute with just that right amount of sexy that she pulls off with that voice of her's. _________________ Live as if to die tomorrow. Wow so many good ones!! I particularly like the ones you don't hear all the time. Holly and the Ivy, Carol of the Birds, Coventry Carol, I saw 3 ships one of my Favorites is a French carrol, Ille est ne, le divine enfant" (actually it heard played the other day in a Parisian Marche de Noel, right after "jingle bells" in French one of my highlights so far)
Of the secular ones my favorite, is Mel Torme's The Christmas Song ("Chestnuts Roasting on an open fire...") My favorite rendition is by Carmen McRae (perfect phrasing)
Another treat is off the Leon Redbone Holliday album, which features him combining with New Orlean's Own Dr, John in a ripping rendition of Frosty the Snowman can't help but tap your feet _________________ I would like a gin martini, straight up, olives on the side, as dry as my wit, as clean as my conscience.

Good ones, Everyone!
PM- Oooh! You know some I don't. I've never heard of The Carol of the Birds but I'll see if I can search it out. I also love The Holly and the Ivy and Il Est Ne le Divin Enfant. Then there's Bring a Torch Jenette Isabella (tho the lyrics I know are different than the ones I find online). I love The Carol of the Bells and a long time ago Harry Belafonte did a calypso version of Long Time Ago in Bethlehem that runs through my head like a loop this time of year (a pleasant loop).
Then there's I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In. I heard a Middle Eastern version of These Three Kings Of Orient once with tabla and a loping rhythm. It made so much more sense that way. It was exotic and lovely and ever so much more interesting than I've ever heard it before. Wish I could remember how it sounded now. Otherwise, this particular carol bores me.
I love Pachelbel's Canon in D. Is that Christmas music, actually? And Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire. Again, Christmas music? I dunno. I just know I love it and it's always appropriate at the holiday season.
Hope you're finding more and more each day to fuel the joy of the season and love for those near and dear and all your fellow Man. _________________ God writes a lot of comedy... the trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny. -- Garrison Keillor

Angels we have Heard on High (GloOoOria!) Right now I am listening to one of my favorite Christmas CD's The Corol Commission by M-Pact an accapela group from Seattle. A friend with a party business just sent me a compelation CD one of her DJ's made last year and it is great, Christmas Music you can dance to.

I am very fond of "Oi! To the world", by both the Vandals and No Doubt. Despite my religious views, I really love "Silent Night". _________________ "It's watery....and yet there's a smack of ham."
