A few years ago at an auction I bid on the most wonderful black forest cake. The whipped cream frosting was to die for and the cake itself exquisite. Seven years later I am having a craving for this cake, but have no recipe. Please help!

If you want to complicate your life a little bit, search for 'The Cake Bible" ( Rose Levy-Barenboim) recipe for Black Forest Cake. She succeeds to give the most elaborate indications even for a relatively simple cake, but the results are more than perfect, so it's worth it.
Bon Appetit!

No more war, more Black Forest Cake!

my mom makes cheater's black forest cake for my older brother's bday almost every single year (its his absolute fave). as my mom isn't a cake baker, she starts with box chocolate cake and makes it according to the package. then before she bakes it, she adds the cherries from a can of pie filling, NOT the gooey stuff, just the cherries, since may isn't exactly prime cherry season. bake it and frost with either whipped cream or cool whip, whichever time allows for. its the easy way out, but its still good!

(ps- the gooey filling, its ALL mine. with a spoon of course, sharp edges you know Wink )
