|This is a website that I found whilst looking for a better explanation.. mine is almost identical but this is a good reference, especially for food safety.
I have seen other recipes that say not to puncture the apple skin and heat it gently so it doesn't burst. Some also call for mace, allspice.. depends on what you like. The only thing I would recommend is the use of cider vinegar.
And for the apple buttter.. I made a small emergency batch of this in a crock pot last autumn here in NZ.
